When Kayla Koeune's not pouring beers or shaking martinis at The Hi Hat Garage or The Stone or The Irish Rec Room or The Standard, she's serving as a sergeant in the National Guard or painting in her Bay View studio.
An opening reception at Inova Gallery will take place on Sunday, Sept. 18 for University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts alumna Jan Serr.
The Pfister Hotel recently named Milwaukee painter Shelby Keefe as their third and latest artist in residence. Keefe, who was one of six finalists, won the position after she received the most votes via Facebook, Twitter, a web site and in-person voting.
Earlier this month, one of Jim Finnerty's paintings, "The Year of The Monkey," placed second in the 2010 National Veteran's Art Competition. The contest drew 1,1716 entries.
Last weekend, the Milwaukee Art Museum opened "Street Seen," an exhibit revealing six photographers whose style defined New York Photography in the '40s, '50s and '60s. Last week, I had the chance to sit down with one of the featured artists, Saul Leiter.
