Thanks to SSP America and its strategy of collaborating with local businesses, the food and coffee options at Mitchell International have never been better. The latest step forward - a Pizzeria Piccola in Concourse C - is again fruit of SSP's partnership with The Bartolotta Restaurants group.
"Great beer deserves great food" is the slogan of the Rumpus Room, the new Bartolotta Restaurant Group venture that opens tonight in the Water Street space previously occupied by Eagan's. The second half of that statement has described Bartolotta eateries since the first opened in 1993. But the restaurants brothers Joe and Paul Bartolotta own are known for their wine lists and cocktails. Beer has not been in the spotlight - until now.
Eagan's, 1000 N. Water St., will be replaced by a Bartolotta gastropub in autumn, according to Bartolotta Restaurant Group general manager John Wise. It will be the first such concept for the Bartolottas, who also own Harbor House, Lake Park Bistro, Bacchus and a number of other area restaurants.
The idea that hospital food is, at best, tasteless and boring, is a common one, but Milwaukee area hospitals won't stand idly by and let people badmouth their eats. Instead, they're putting their best food forward in a head-to-head competition against their fellow care facilities, and helping to raise some money for a good cause while they're at it.
