Lead singer, guitarist and chief songwriter Stephen Ziel used to front the melody rockin' Milwaukee combo Blackfish. When Blackfish decided to shift direction and change names, Ziel and comrade/bassist Clem brought on the talents of Al Hildenbrand (former guitarist/singer of Milwaukee's "Happytown") and brand spanking new drum spanker, Micah Havertape.

Right off the bat, they were featured on the album, "Gag Me With A Spoon: Don't Records Celebrates The Nineteen Eighties". The album had Milwaukee artists covering modern rock songs from the 80's. Pet Engine chose to cover The Smiths' "How Soon is Now?"

Following a high profile Summerfest gig with Collective Soul, In early 1996, they released the critically acclaimed and fine selling CD ep, Musicalbum. One song from Musicalbum, "Place to Breathe," garnered heavy Milwaukee radio airplay for the first three months of '96. This success prompted a return to the studio for work on the release Feeling Like a Hundred Bucks.

Of the eleven songs on Feeling Like a Hundred Bucks, eight were recorded at the famed and fabled Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin. Pet Engine employed the skills of up and coming producer, Mike Zirkel, for the disc. Zirkel has recently been the right hand man for one of Smart's other producer guys, Mr. Butch Vig (producer and drummer for a few pretty successful projects, including the multi-platnium Garbage). The other 3 tunes were produced by Michael Hoffmann at Milwaukee's Joe's Place studio (the vanity studio of former Violent Femmes drummer and Almo Sounds recording artist, Victor DeLorenzo).

Years of touring and a few high profile shows in Los Angeles later, Pet Engine is ready to unleash their latest release Megahurtz. The first single "Popular Teenage Disease" is just as it's title says...infectious
