A guide to Milwaukee-area tailors and shoe repair
Note: The contents of this guide were checked for accuracy when this article was updated on Nov. 29, 2009 at 3:17 p.m. We continually update the thousands of articles on OnMilwaukee.com, but it's possible some details, specials and offers may have changed. As always, we recommend you call first if you have specific questions for the businesses mentioned in the guide.
As the holiday season gets in full swing, most of us will most likely find that our suits, slacks and dresses may be getting a little ... snug.
Sure, you can take advantage of deals at area stores, or you can save some money have get simple alterations done.
At the same time, a pair of good shoes is an investment. A torn sole or broken heel is no reason to discard a perfectly good set of footwear, so why not take it to a local cobbler for a quick and inexpensive repair.
Having old items fixed instead of replaced is becoming more and more commonplace as folks look to save money these days.
Most large department stores and men's clothing shops do offer in-house alterations with the purchase of a new suit, slacks or sport coat. In addition, some area dry cleaners - like London Cleaners, for example - also provide shoe repair and alteration services.
Here's a list of other area shops. And, as always, if you have your own that isn't mentioned here, share it with others using the Talkback feature below:

The London also does shoe work. I got a pair of boots resoled and patched up and they did a good job.

I have to say, the couple at The London have always been helpful with all my alterations. I have all my clothing altered at The London, as well as my clothes cleaned there. They have been there forever so that always stood out to me! Never knew that they did shoe repair though so I guess its a good thing to know! I have been to many cleaners locally who profess "alterations" and my pick out of all of them is The London hands down!

+1 for the cobbler on 8th and Oklahoma, real nice older guy that does great work. Also he has the big old machines which means that he can re-sole vibram lug sole boots . . . my work boots are going on 8+years now thanks to him

Where's a good place to get jeans tailored? I went to one place to get a pair of nice men's jeans tailored (won't say where), and they ruined them.

Can anyone recommend a shoe repair shop that works on Birkenstocks? I used to get mine resoled and repaired at the Birkenstock Store in Brookfield but it is long gone.
