The closing of What's Fresh! is a loss for Milwaukee.

What's Fresh! Deli is closed for good

After 22 years of serving (and delivering) sandwiches and soup to the Downtown community, What's Fresh! Deli, 146 E. Juneau Ave., has closed.

A sign in the window reads, "Thanks for the 22 years," and a voicemail message says, "Sorry for the inconvenience, but What's Fresh has closed for good."

OMG I will miss you all terribly!!! You've helped me get through many of my hustle and bustle days of work on the run. Thank you for many years of awesome service. I wish you well Jared and crew!:)

Ugh, I'm dying for the chicken salad too (but on white bread with lettuce). Jared and crew were cool folks. Probably still are...

Wow. Was really the only Downtown bakery, deli, coffee stop in the early 90s. Always consistent, great catering and the lunch boxes on the ceiling will become a part of Milwaukee history.

But those are the roots of Arin Bert Coffee & Grill, which recently opened in a Downtown storefront that over several decades has housed Finch`s Corned Beef, Five Dollar Deli, Philly Way, Wingz and Amazon Pizza. Sil`s Mini Donut Shop, 1802 E. North Ave., will close at the end of April. The lease for the uniquely-shaped structure on the corner of North and Oakland Avenues was not renewed, but co-owner Susan Beaumont says the business will remain at the 7 Mile Fair and summer festivals.

Hotch-A-Do closing?

Hotch-A-Do, 1813 E. Kenilworth Pl., will close on April 2 and reopen in early June. The East Side bar and restaurant will undergo a remodel and return with a revamped menu with an emphasis on brunch.
