T.J. Aliota's appears closed

T.J. Aliota's, 261 W. Hampton Ave., appears to have closed. The phone was disconnected and the "smoking tent" which was erected behind the building about a year ago was taken down.

A sign that reads "closed for remodeling" is on the door, but there is no sign of activity. I asked a passerby, and she found the sign to be suspicious because the bar had already remodeled recently.

Aliota's was a family-owned and operated sports bar with a Friday fish fry that opened in the '80s.

The story I heard is that T.J.'s went bankrupt! Oh, and I live in THE BAY.

The closed signs have not been up for "months." They went up on January 1. The bar was open and busy the week before New Year's.

The Pabst Theater Foundation, Discovery World and Bartolotta Restaurant Group have announced the 2012 dates and titles for the fourth annual outdoor movie series today.

Parking lot gets creative

Downtown Milwaukee has many under used parking garage roof tops and parking lots that are dying for off peak activity. So, hats off to the Westown Association for acting on their ideas to activate a parking lot this summer on 4th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Oakcrest Tavern's fry

Then, in our own backyard almost, we stumbled into the Oakcrest Tavern on Oakland and Capitol Drive. And it was a great and pleasant surprise.

Le Reve's fish fry slaw

With Lent now in full swing, it seems every restaurant in town is hyping its fish fry or offering one especially for the season. Among the latter is is Le Reve, 7610 Harwood Ave., in Tosa Village, returns a traditional fish fry to its menu every Lent. This year it`s back, offering beer-battered Atlantic cod with pommes frites, caraway rye bread, coleslaw and house-made tartar sauce.
