The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2010. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

Milwaukee is home to a bevy of great pizzerias, but OnMilwaukee.com readers picked Zaffiro's as the top pie maker.

The mom-and-pop pizza place has been in the same East Side location since 1954. Today, the restaurant is owned by Mike Zaffiro, the son of the original owner.

Zaffiro's has a second location, inside the North Shore Cinema, 11700 N. Port Washington Rd.

Zaffiro's Pizza is known for its thin-crust pizzas, pasta dishes and garlic bread in a neighborhood bar / casual restaurant setting. The upbeat environment is comfortable for diners of any age, including children.

i agree with RJ, although perhaps not on the top of the list, Maria's is some of the best pizza i have had in recent memory. certainly far better than calderone club, rustico, brick 3 or solo.

My fav is Transfer. FRESH ingredients (who made that canned mushroom comment?!? seriously?). Nice atmosphere, attentive staff.

Dom and Phil's is too inconsistent, Mama's is better and Marias is best in my opinion. It's all subjective though.

Ned's on 27th. It may be over priced, but something about that pizza is GOOD! I think its the canned mushrooms. OH and you can go to Leon's to complete the experience! Lisa's Pizza on Oakland is another personal favorite.

Why no love for Joey Buonas? Sure it's kind of "commercial" but since Edwardo's closed downtown, it's the best place to get a Chicago deep dish. And their thin crust is pretty good too.

Ian's pizza slices

In honor of Damien Jaques` article this morning about pizza by the slice - and in honor of my recent trip home to Brooklyn - I`m going to have a slice a day this week and write about it here. Because it`s right across the street and the idea just hit me, I`m starting with Ian`s on North Avenue.

Wacky pizza slices

Pizza by the slice shops have been on the East Coast for decades, but they are relatively new to Milwaukee. We may have been late to the party, but we have compensated for that with startling imagination and ingenuity in topping those slices.

Yum, SoLo Pizza!

Oakland Trat is now SoLo Pizza, but fortunately, many of their recipes remain. And very fortunately, they dropped off three pizzas to the hungry staff of OnMilwaukee.com today. I was pretty happy that the barbecue chicken one tastes exactly the same.

Downtown Ian's

Ian`s Pizza, the Madison-based pizzeria chain that specializes in selling its product by the slice, will open a second Milwaukee location Downtown next month.
